Finding a dog trainer can be a daunting task. Dog training is unregulated, so it can be difficult to decide which trainer is right for you. As with our dog walking services, education and transparency lie at the root of the services Petunia and Company provides.
Our dog training approach is a positive reinforcement approach, and our membership with the Pet Professional Guild speaks to that commitment. Here, you will not find a punishment based approach, and equipment designed to force compliance through fear or pain is not used. We don’t believe that dogs come pre-programmed with an automatic understanding of what our human rules of polite society are, but rather, it’s up to us to humanely teach our dogs what those rules are and reinforce our dogs’ success in learning.
But ideology isn’t enough, and our professional certifications and dedication to continuing education speak to a truly educated and science based approach to dog training and behavior modification. Further, we believe that pet care professionals should work in a realistic manner and within a self-regulated scope of practice. If additional veterinary assessments or the services of an Applied Animal Behaviorist are required, we can and will refer you to the best in the industry.
As a Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA), through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (http://www.ccpdt.org), you can expect Petunia and Company owner and trainer Beverley McKee to provide you with a thorough assessment, a realistic training and management plan, guidance through the implementation of that plan, and detailed follow up notes and support to continue teaching your dog new skills to cope with our busy urban lives. Beverley follows a humane hierarchy model and embraces a force-free approach to dog training. There is no mysticism or alchemy involved in dog training. We provide realistic and proven solutions following professional industry-standard protocols that humanely teach your dog the skills they need to live happy and harmonious lives.
